Just don't make a coaster, personalize it!

Of course everyone loves receiving a handmade gift, because the friend took the time to make them something special. But why not really personalize the gift and make it even more special? As I did with these personalized coasters I made years ago, way before this blog was a twinkle in my eye! Please excuse the photo quality. If I had known I would develop a blog three years later, I would have taken better quality pictures!

I really thought about the person and what makes them special. One friend's likes everything having to do with birds!

I thought about the colors they liked.

Bet you can't guess what this friend does for a living?

I made this coaster for a friend from his band logo.

Another friend had just decorated her classroom space with precious fabric. I took a picture of the fabric and printed out a square!

These are easy to make! I used different scrapbook paper. If I wanted to print a design or print an initial on the paper, etc., then I would make the design in Microsoft Word on my computer. I created a text box smaller than 4"x4," the size of the blank, glossy tile. After making the design, I printed it on the scrapbook paper and cut it out using a paper cutter. I added several layers of Mod Podge, being sure to dry well between the layers.

This photograph does not do this coaster justice. I like this one because of the layers and the colors.

I also stacked scrapbook papers together to make a design.

I purchased felt backing with adhesive from my local hardware store and cut the felt to fit the tile.

And, of course, my husband had to receive one....War Eagle!

I think my friends really liked the personalized coasters I made for them so many years ago, because I still see them being used on their desks or in their homes. It makes me smile! And, isn't that what it's all about?

I don't have photographs of all my designs, but here are a few others.
